может вопрос немного не в тему, но тем не менее. есть у меня один оспреевский релиз в виде набора jpg-сканов. чем и как перевести его в pdf-вариант с минимальной потерей оригинального качества картинок?

Все зависит от того, что желаете получить.
1. Можно просто запихать все картинки в Adobe Acrobat (не Reader) и он сконвертирует их в pdf, но качество может быть "не совсем".

2. Чтобы получить максимум качества, надо загнать их в фотошоп, если необходимо: подрезать, увеличить поля, повернуть вертикально, сделать все одинакового размера (2000х2700, минимум 1900х2550 - ниже начинают возникать артефакты при увеличении до полноэкранной страницы) и сохранить в BMP (это обеспечит уменьшение размера конечного файла в 1,5-2 раза). После этого загнать все в ... читайте пункт 1.

3. Скинуть все на расшаренный сервер, а товарищи доработают.

А римляне от тех, что на броне отличаются чем-то? Вроде размер другой?

Чем отличаються не знаю, свой качал из осла. Но файл вполне может быть одним и тем же. А с размером....у меня написан реальный размер файла, а на бронарме размер архива. Если есть файл с бронарма - тогда можно сравнить по размеру.
